The very first Dressbarn opened in Connecticut in 1962 and it was an immediate success, despite having inadequate parking space, insufficient dressing rooms and a staircase which customers had to climb in order to access the store. Dressbarn was conceived when Roslyn Jaffe realized a need for a one-stop-shop for women for designer clothing at affordable prices. It is also said that in the initial days, Roslyn would drive her station wagon to different warehouses to look for new products, bargain and load her station wagon with these items.
Dressbarn pretty much offers everything that a woman needs – from Dresses, tops, pants, skirts to denims, loungewear, jackets, and coats. The store stocks brands such as Westport, Roz&Ali, DBSunday etc. The store also offers a range of shoes and accessories like jewelry, handbags, scarves, hosiery, wallets, shooties etc. They have a section for plus-size women, which brings the store to a full circle. Their dresses are further categorized into A-Line dresses, cocktail dresses, maxi dresses, lace dresses and designer dresses.
